Development of visualization tools to support public involvement in the assessment of landscape change

Overall, it is the basic question, how to facilitate and improve public participation in landscape policy and planning issues.

Main Aim
In this context, it is the main aim of the VISULANDS project to develop visualization tools to support public involvement in the assessment of landscape change.

These tools should assist planners and the public in assessing the outcomes of landscape planning strategies. Therefore, the relationship between visual qualities and other landscape functions have to be analysed in detail.

Objectives
Therefore, the VISULANDS project is dealing with the following objectives in detail:

1. To develop visualization techniques to assess future landscapes.
2. To develop quantitative indicators of landscape change.
3. To provide a robust set of preference models applicable to European landscapes.
4. To test the potential to link assessments of visual qualities and production, socio-economic, ecological, cultural and amenity functions.
5. To test the effectiveness of interactive visualization tools in communicating the outcomes of policy and planning decisions on landscape evolution.
6. To exploit the project results and tools through the production of educational materials and outreach schemes for professional training and the public.
